My entry for 
's Mini Contest to design a pet for Anabelle!
I went through a small range of different critters before I finally settled on this one. I haven't given her a name, because A) I can't think of a good one, and B) I'm leaving her name up in the air for now just in case! Should this little critter not win (which is fine
), then I'll be sure to give her a name myself! C: But let me give you some specs on her species!
Papooshkins are silly creatures with a silly name. They're much like a combination of a hedgehog and an armadillo. They have light-colored, soft skin on their heads and limbs, but their "shells" are very tough. They block out insects, liquids (like water, should it flood or rain too much), and airborne chemicals like pesticides (or poison, should it be necessary!). The only thing that can break though their shell is just brute force from an animal larger than them. Close to their hind end is a bit of fluff that extrudes from the shell. This is used to cushion their heads when they are fully rolled into a ball. (The little critter in this picture is only about...50% rolled up!) For the most part they walk on all fours, but they are able to stand on their hind legs for short periods of time in order to investigate their surroundings.
They are mostly defensive, and prefer not to attack. Should it be necessary, however, they have a strong bite! They live in flower beds whether in the wild or in gardens. Some may confuse them for common garden pests, should they not be familiar with the species, but they're quite the opposite! Papooshkins actually eat common garden pests like bugs and worms, but they may occasionally get a taste for a flower bud every now and again.
Papooshkins can mainly be found in The Snake Queen's forest, but this one seems to have found her way to the Poison Kingdom! And this particular Papooshkin is docile for the most part, but she still has a spark! She's still young, but she won't get much bigger. And despite her little fighting spark (not to be confused with aggression of course), she is ultimately harmless~ All bark and no bite, as they say!
